Have you ever felt like you have been wandering aimless in the dry hot desert, hungry, thirsty and feeling faint or perhaps the waves high and pounding hard around you and you fear going down? Is your appetite gone and your days are filled with anxiety and tears. Have you forgotten what it felt like to have the warm sunshine on your face and the gentle breeze blowing your hair making it flow freely?
Most of us have been down that gravel road, bare footed more than once in our lives. I certainly have walked that road finding myself lost in the wilderness, where the grass had once seemed much greener and I was happy to leave everything else behind to reach the greener side. Upon arrival it didn’t seem as appealing as I had once thought.
There were thorns and thistles and I often found myself tangled in them. The more I tried to set myself free, the deeper they dug their fangs into me. I could not get away. I fought hard, but they held me tight.
If you are feeling challenged at work or in your personal life and the world seems to be against you, and there seems to be no answer, then reaching out to God could be your only answer.
If nothing is working out in your life, and the more you try to fix things, the deeper you seem to sink in, then give it to the Lord for he has more resources than you have got. He knows ways to bring you from the back to the front, He knows the very hair of your head and the very breath you breath before it even gets inside your lungs.
Let me tell you about a certain young man in the Bible who often traveled that road like the rest of us. His name was David (Psalms). David inquired of the Lord in everything and the Lord helped him. When I feel low and challenged and down in my spirit, I read Psalms and feel encouraged knowing that the same God that David trusted in everything, is still alive and still willing to help me just as He helped David long time ago. It helps me to know that David felt all that I was feeling today and I was not the only one to feel low, to feel defeated, but that people like David, Moses, Job, Abraham, Hannah, Ruth, Naomi, went ahead of me and paved the way for me.
I am encouraged by these saints that life may throw us many difficult challenges, we may get broken, we may feel defeated, and let down, but if God could help them, then the same God can help me too. The Bible says He never sleeps nor slumbers, and is the same today as He was then.
When I felt low and discouraged, an outcast, unloved, not wanted, had low self esteem than God found me.
You might feel that the world has forgotten you and that no one cares, that life itself has forgotten you.
Joseph who was left alone in the cold dark smell dungeon, sold by his own siblings who hated him, and hated his calling. No one visited him in the jail. His father was told he had died. Imagine being Joseph, sold by his own siblings, in jail for 12 long years in another country.
Joseph crawled in the corner, clothes torn, dirty and smelly in the jail cell. He had dried blood around his mouth and forehead and he smelled foul. He had not bathed in weeks. He was the youngest of child of his parents, loved by his father, apple of his fathers eyes. His own flesh and blood betrayed him.
But the Lord didn’t forget him even in the dark jail cell. God had prepared a palace for Joseph ahead of time. God knew exactly where Joseph was and went ahead of him to prepare the way to his palace where one day he could become a blessing to others.
The Lord does not forget you. You may not see Him in your problems, but He sees you. You may not know which way to turn, and I didn’t know either, but He knew and He worked everything out for His glory in my life.
Maybe you are at the point of despair in your life today. You feel alone and helpless. The Bible says, when we cry out to God, the Lord who is a redeemer, savior hears his children’s cry. He brought exiles back from the farthest corners of the earth (Psalm 107:3). He brought them straight to safety. The God of Israel will never leave you nor forsake you. He is loving and kind full of mercy who forgives our mistakes and choices. He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry.
Why are you sitting in the darkness and in the shadow of death crushed with misery and slavery? The Lord is more than able to rescue you. The Lord is well able to break those chains and break those iron bars.
He did for Joseph, and He did for me. He will for you too. Dare to believe today, dare to call his Name Jesus over your situation.
There was a palace waiting outside of Josephs jail cell. God had a place for you too. He will bring you out to safety. Jesus did not die to leave you in bondage. He died to set you free.
